Cervical vertebral bone age estimation and its correlation to chronological age

Introduction: Cervical vertebrae are used as a reliable tool to assess the skeletal maturation of an individual and predict maximum growth potential.Aim objective: This study aimed estimate bone age by measuring 3rd 4th cervical vertebrae(C3, C4) dimensions on cephalometric radiographs.Materials Methods: A total 100 girls in group 7-15 years were taken into consideration. Using radiographs, we measured vertebral bodies using regression formula, was obtained based ratios measurements third fourth bodies. It then correlated with chronological age.Results: The Spearman correlation coefficient between chronologic 0.695, (p-value < 0.001) which statistically significant.Conclusion: cervical-vertebrae stages considered clinically useful maturity indicators pubertal period.
